ProPresenter 5 & 6 Tutorial: The difference between audio effects and tracks

When you’re using the audio bin in Pro5 & Pro6, there are two media types that you’ll see. One is the audio track and the other is the audio effect. They both play audio, so what’s the difference?

[tweet “Ever wondered what the difference is between audio tracks and effects in ProPresenter? Wonder no more:”]

The audio track is an audio file that ProPresenter assumes you want to play one at a time. Normally, these are longer files like songs that you might use before or after church or as a track during worship.

Contrast this to an audio effect. They tend to be shorter, although, not necessarily. You may also want to play multiple audio effects at a time.

When you import audio files, ProPresenter decides which is which. How? Duration. I don’t know exactly what the break point is, but shorter files are assumed to be effects and longer files are assumed to be tracks.

Changing the type of audio file you have is as simple as right clicking the file and changing the type in the library.

Remember though, that with audio tracks, you also get an additional control. You can tell the track to stop at the end, loop, or go to the next track.
