Once you’ve gotten people on your church email newsletter list, how do you send emails to certain groups? Mailchimp has a couple of features that help.
First, you could make individual lists if you’ll never be sending to more than one list at a time. Emails can be automatically segmented using this method by having people sign up in different places.
That’s how I start.
For a church, I’d recommend a different method. Create a master list, but create groups for each “group” of people you want to send different emails to. Maybe you’d create one for the elders, one for parents, one for staff, etc.
Each person can be in multiple groups, so Brother Bob could be a deacon, a parent of a teen, and a Sunday school teacher.
Once you’ve created the groups, adding people to the group is as simple as having checkboxes on the signup form. They check each appropriate box and they’re segmented.
These aren’t permanent either. People can be added, removed, or moved at any time.
Doing this, you can send announcements to only the people who need them.
