On today’s Tech Help for Churches, How to make email newsletters for your church[tweet “For your church’s email newsletter, should you use a list serve, BCC everyone, or do something else? Hint: Something else.”]
You church’s newsletter needs to be delivered via email. I told you that last week. What I didn’t tell you is the exact type of email tool to use.
Some people might think that an email list-serve (like we had back in the 1990s) would be great. Nope.
Others would think that you should just copy and paste the email addresses into the BCC field of your email and let it fly. Nope. Wrong again.
The correct answer is an email service provider like Mailchimp, Aweber, etc. Here’s why:
Segmentation. You can have a master list that’s composed of sub-lists so people can get news relevant only to them.
Delivery rates. Did you know that if you’re mailing a group fewer people are likely to see it? Email services like these specialize in getting those numbers up so that more people see your email and you’re not mistaken for Spam.
Tracking. You assume everyone reads your email, but what if they don’t. What if instead of reading your email, they delete it immediately. You can track that with an email provider so that you know if you’re doing a good job or not.
