ProPresenter 6 Troubleshooting: The MacOS Sierra setting that causes media loss

Apple added a bunch of great new features in Sierra. There’s even one that automatically backs up your desktop and documents folders to iCloud, so you don’t have to worry about having an automatic off-site backup of these files.

[tweet “Some people lose their media in ProPresenter for no apparent reason. This might be why:”]

In an even more helpful step, when your hard drive (or SSD or Flash storage) gets too full, Apple will delete local copies of these files so that you have more space, but still have copies in iCloud, leaving a shortcut to the remote files behind. For most software, this is no problem whatsoever…ProPresenter isn’t most software, though.

This feature really is intended to help you out, and it mostly does, but if ProPresenter doesn’t find a file, it just assumes you deleted it and you can lose playlists or media this way.

So…how do you fix it?

There are two ways. Either turn off this feature in System Preferences or set ProPresenter to save your files in another location. Either way should work.

Watch the video above for more specifics.
