ProPresenter 6 Tutorial: How to add another display with the AppleTV & why you shouldn’t

Maybe you don’t have another option to add another display. Maybe your church is portable, so a networked output would be great. Maybe you just want to see what you can do. No matter what your reasoning, you may be curious how to add another display with the appletv, but in this ProPresenter 6 tutorial, I’ll show you how, but also why you shouldn’t do it.

The first thing to realize is that if you try to do this, your results will be contingent on the network. So it might work fine during the week, but fail during church, if you do it on wifi.

Next, realize that while a private wifi network is better than a public one, a private hardwired network is the best idea.

Basically, this all relies on a feature in MacOS that allows you to airplay to an apple tv and use it as an external display.

It’s a great feature, but not completely bullet proof, as you can see in the video. You’re relying not only on MacOS, but the network as a whole, so there are things that can go wrong (like a bad ethernet cable, an old router, etc.).

That said, just go into Preferences in MacOS and then go to displays. Once you’re there, choose to airplay to your apple tv. If you don’t see it, check (the network again and then) the apple tv to make sure it’s configured properly to do this.
