Vertical videos are a fact of life. As a videographer, I hate them. But, sometimes they do show up at church and I need to get them into ProPresenter. Ideally, you’d open them up in Premiere or Final Cut and fix them, but if you don’t have time, here’s how to do it in ProPresenter and the trade-offs for when you do.

You might think you know how to rotate sideways vertical videos, but it’s a little trickier than you might think.

First, you’ve got to know that you can’t rotate a video 90 degrees if it’s either a foreground or a background video. Media properties will rotate 180 degrees or mirror a video, but not rotate it 90 degrees.

So, to do this, you’ll have to bring it into the slides layer. Once you do, you can use the rotating tool in one of the tabs to rotate it 90 degrees.

This does come with some trade-offs, though. First, you lose transport control, so the video plays when you go to the slide and stops when you leave the slide. There’s no way to trim the video (like you can in media properties of foreground or background videos) either, so if it’s too long, you’re stuck.
