[tweet “If you want to help the media team by making your sermon notes, try this instead of what you’re doing:”]

More than once, someone has tried to help me by making sermon notes. Sometimes they’d do it in PowerPoint. Sometimes in a Word document. The result was always the same, though. They made things harder, not easier for me as the ProPresenter operator.

I love it when pastors and teachers want to help. What they don’t always get is that sometimes, their helping makes things worse.

The easiest way to fix this is just give your media team a simple text document (like you’d make in notepad or textedit). For each slide, put the words you want and then double space.

If you want to include an image, put the name of the file in brackets where the text would be. Something like “[awesome-picture.jpg]” and include the original in a folder that you give the team along with the text document.

Want to add a bulleted list? Just put a hyphen before each point.

Want a fill in the blank? Put an underscore before the first word and after the last.

Once they receive the text document, the team can import the text in no time at all into ProPresenter and format it to go with the rest of the presentation. They can also add in the special things you want (like bulleted lists and fill-in-the-blanks or pictures) easily, too.

It seems too simple, but that’s the beauty of this strategy. It’s easier for everyone.

For more of how I would do it, watch the video above. If you’d like, you can also take the course that I took this lesson from at TDM.fyi/pro6pastors.
