On today’s Tech Help for Churches, Brainstorming church podcast ideasMost churches will podcast their sermons. That’s great…except that most churches podcast their sermons.
In a sea of thousands of church sermon podcasts, how can your church stand out? I suggest that you also podcast another show about something else. What should it be about? I don’t know, but you do. You just don’t know that you do.
[tweet “How can you come up with ideas for a church podcast that don’t involve the sermon? Try these tips: “]That’s where brainstorming comes in. We don’t want to only come up with good ideas. We want to come up with all ideas. The bad ones lead, often times, to better ones.
So, that’s ground rule number one. When you’re brainstorming, don’t edit out bad ideas. Leave them in place.
With that in mind, take a piece of paper and put down all the letters of the alphabet, one on each line. Now, fill in each with a different idea. Remember, they can be bad ideas.
Next, just keep going and add in as many other ideas as you have. More is better than less.
Third, have someone fill a bag with random doo-dads. Have them pick one out and hand it to you. Now, think of a show (no matter how bad) that your church could do in light of that thing.
Try and get at least 100 ideas (most of them bad, but good ones are permissible, too.)
Now, take a break. Let your subconscious work on the problem for at least a day. Make sure you sleep on it.
After you’ve done that, pick out the best ideas and then bounce them off of people that they’re targeted for. Ask parents if the kid’s podcast ideas are good. Ask generous people if a podcast on giving is a good idea.
Congrats. You now have a podcast idea for something other than a sermon podcast.
