On today’s Tech Help for Churches,

Share and Embed YouTube links

Do you wish you could figure out what youtube links mean and learn how to make your own? Today, I show you that they’re not as mysterious as you might think.

[tweet “YouTube links really do have a logic to them if you understand them. Here’s how:”]

There are two basic types of links:
The regular link is: www.youtube.com/watch?v= + the video code.
The short link is: youtu.be/ + the video code.

The video code for this video is “hkbUVMXM-wo”. So, to create a code that leads you to the video, you can add the video code to either of the links above.

For the embed, you here’s the code: <iframe width=”560″ height=”315″ src=”https://www.youtube.com/embed/hkbUVMXM-wo?showinfo=0″ frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen>

Notice the video code “hkbUVMXM-wo” in the middle. It starts with <iframe which tells the website that’s it’s an embed code. Next, you have width="560" height="315" which is the width and height for the video. Next, src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/ which indicates that you should use a special website with only the video. Next, you add the video code. After it, you have a couple more parameters: ?showinfo=0" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen> which tell the embed whether to show the information about the video (“0” is no and “1” is yes), whether or not it’s got a border, and whether the video can be played full screen or not.

Finally, you end the embed code with </iframe>, which indicates that the embed is done.

For playlists, there’s an additional “Playlist code.” For my ProPresenter 5 tutorial list, the code is “PLAB48BD53CB814077”. For the regular link, this goes after the video link after an indicator that it’s part of a playlist:&index=1&list=.

For the embed link, you add ?list= after the video code and before the playlist code. Next add &amp before the showinfo parameter.

I’m not going to get into all the possible parameters that you can add or remove this week, but there are plenty, so look for those elsewhere.
