On YouTube, analytics help you know who is watching your videos, where they live, how long they watch, etc. By checking your analytics, you can improve your videos.

I know because of mine that most of my audience is male, aged 18-54. I also know that they live in the US and watch (on average) for about 4 minutes per video.

You’ll notice that this video is around that length. The idea is to make content that my audience likes so that that they’ll watch more and content that they watch more of (as a percentage) so that YouTube will show my content to more people.
