Looking to buy a new ProPresenter computer? Make sure you keep these things in mind.

Start out at the ProPresenter 6 System Requirements and check system requirements before you do anything else. If you get a “great deal” on a computer that you want to run ProPresenter, but it can’t or can’t without upgrades, is it such a good deal?

Additionally, make sure that the platform you go with supports what you want to do with ProPresenter. This is especially true of the modules. Don’t insist on Windows if you also insist on running the Midi or Communications Modules. They don’t run on Windows.

Also, keep in mind that, with one exception that I’ve heard about, every church that’s run Pro6 on both Mac and Windows has preferred running it on Mac. It was originally designed and built on Mac, so that’s part of it. Another part of it is that Pro5 was the first version on Windows and Pro6 is only the second. So, Renewed Vision has less experience on Windows.

Don’t mishear me though. It works fine on Windows, if you get the right hardware.

So, what’s your experience on buying ProPresenter computers? Did I leave anything out? If so, comment below.

By the way, this is one of the early lessons in the ProPresenter 6 Hardware Course. For more information or to sign up, go to http://tdm.fyi/pro6hardware.

  1. I used to hate them too. That said, while the Windows version of Pro6 is getting better all the time, it’s still a 32 bit application so it won’t address all the RAM you’d probably want in your “more powerful” PC. I’ve talked to hundreds of churches that use ProPresenter and 3 like it better on PC; the rest prefer it on Mac. Some of the modules aren’t yet available on Windows, either, so if you’re planning on using them, that might be another thing to push you over the edge.
